Richmond Architecture

Post by giantbones »

This is Old City Hall, in Richmond Virginia. The storybooks state that it was constructed between 1886 and 1894 (pre-power tools). It takes up one city block and has 3-foot thick granite walls. It was designed by Elijah Meyers who won a design contest. It has a 195-foot clock tower. It faced demolition proposals in 1915 and in the 1970's. Who would want to demolish this, especially after only 20 years? Beautiful building.
